But before you reach out for that red and white can, please, I implore you, try the freshly-made sauce first. Now don't get me wrong, I love the canned stuff, its smooth texture, the sweet tartness, the tin can grooves on the perfectly round slices... but truly, if you have about 15 minutes, you owe it to yourself (and the rest of your friends and family) to make it from scratch.
Now don't be scared, this is probably the easiest recipe you'll never need to write down. Ready? Okay, first thing you'll need is cranberries (duh), the second is sugar, and the third is water. That's it - not rocket science, right? Okay, maybe a glass of wine too (for you, not the recipe silly!)
1. Mix 1 cup sugar with 1 cup water and bring to a boil.
2. Add 12 oz (1 bag) of fresh cranberries and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the sauce begins to thicken.
3. Taste. Careful, it's hot! Add more sugar if you find it to be too tart. Now place in the fridge to cool. It will last about 3 days in the refrigerator - just the perfect amount of time to enjoy the rest of your leftovers.
See, that wasn't so hard (but pretend it was or you'll blow my cover at tomorrow's dinner table).
Happy Turkey Day everyone!
